Solar question

I want to run two 120mm CPU fans behind my Dometic Fridge to help cooling process. I also want to fun 3 50mm fans inside the fridge to help circulate.

My question is

the 2 120MM fans are 12v @ .12amps each

the 50mm fans are 12v @ .12 amps each

so I have a total of .60 amp

to convert it to watts is 12vX.60= 7.2 watts

I want to wire this 7watt panel which is Rated up to 7-watt / 583mA per hour of sunlight

If I convert my .60 amp to mA it would be 600mA

So can I wire these fans direct to the solar panel and during the day just have the fans come on with the sun ( I may add a on/off switch to shut it down when not in use)

The fans are good, the panel is to small you going to under v the fans and they will run slow and hot. The 7w is only at high noon with no clouds. I'd use 10-12w.

Perfect answer is a 15w panel and controller with a small AGM battery.

A thermostatic fan switch will turn off the fans when the refer isn't running

A less glorious answer is the fan switch and run the fans off the house battery. If the fans ran 24 straight they would only use  15AH.

FWIW I run my fans this way and the low desert they will cycle on/off till way past 2:00 AM. With your proposed system your fans stop at sundown

thank you WME. ill end up going with the 15watt panel with the Temp switch and small battery.

My fridge gets cold but not as cold as I would like it. its always hovering just out of safe range for food storage.

My bad I ran some numbers. a 20w panel and a 10 ah battery would be better. The 15w panel would be right at the edge

once I get my driver side wall issue repaired (which I'm working on now) I will get a 20w panel a small battery and a thermostatic fan switch. that sounds like the right way to go.

FWIW here is my set up. It runs off the house batteries and the 280w worth of solar panel. The 2  100w glue down panels failed after 1 year and I now have a single 280w traditional panel.

Not so fast,  how do you know that these fans will cool the fridge?  Why do you need these fans in the first place?  What ambient conditions are you going to be using the fridge in?  Solar panels, particularly cheap one may not come with a charge controller?  So you might have over voltage (19 volts) which might burn out you fans, why do not run the solar charge to your batteries, instead of to the fans?

Let me know.  Boots
