Hi Friends

I noticed three lug Nuts missing while parked at home. I am shocked but Still alive. Studs sheared off. No idea when this happend on my last 20 mile drive Or on a earlier camping trip at Mt. Rainier, wa. 

I can use some help finding the right parts, part number, size, resource, any information will be appreciated. Thank you

I bought the Dorman 610-339 for my 93 seabreeze.   Also new nuts,  I no longer have part # for nuts.  But the first set of aftermarket closed end nuts did not seat properly, there is one closed end nut in your picture.  It was not readily apparent,  but the nut was not deep enough for the studs! 

The lines of rust eminating from your lug nuts to the outside of the rim indicate there is a problem! Also hard to tell from the picture but I suspect that the 2 other nuts on your wheel are the wrong type of nut.   Almost look like a flanged lug nut,  except for 86 model the Toyota uses a a a a can't think of name??   Someone help me out here. 

Something has obviously been done wrong with your studs and nuts so if were mine I would replace them all.   Also Toyota engineers have spec'ed 170 foot pounds of torque for the 6 lug wheels and NO LUBRICANT is indicated.   Also they are suppose to be re torqued after 25 to 50 miles.

3 hand hold wheels used a tapered seat open ended lug nut. The 86 6 hole wheel used a flanged nut.

What it is all about is the taper in the rim and tapered nut center the wheel. The 6 hole wheel is centered by the hub and the nuts just hold it on.

Some of the tapered wheels are referred to as a coined wheel

I have used both of these brands/suppliers. the ones from McMaster are better quality in my opinion and have a large hex.

Regarding the torque value... this is from a 1988 FSM... different value for what i believe is the same configuration. Not saying one value is better than the other, just interesting that they are different.

In any case it's always good to check the torque after 50-100 miles

At first I thought Dorman was just parroting Toyota.  However they are manufacturing the nut and stud so must be making them to withstand these torques.

id go with the toyota lug nuts, the dorman one fits but it is a different size hex head, think it was a 21mm, not the 23mm that all the other factory nuts use

 

pricey at ~$6 a nut, but cheaper than shearing your rim off!

Thank you all for valuable insight. Thank you Derek up North for the Diagram of Rear Axel. you are amazing.This diagram was very helpful for me to understand all the parts. Defrag4, your Toyota part numbers are correct, I did not look up other numbers.

Pete at Gresham,  Toyota dealers parts department was very helpful in locating all parts and ordered them for me. They are pricey but piece of mind that they are regional Toyota parts and will fit as they should. They are being shipped from several dealers on the west coast. I should have them in a couple of days. I will post some photos with Toyota part numbers when i have them.
