First thing check brake fluid and then brake travel switch on brake pedal.

Brake fluid level and alt light are tandem it's to get your attention. Here is where a voltmeter comes in if it's charging it's the fluid level system either it's low or something up with the switch.

Except that it's always the alternator on a Toyota. Or something that makes the alternator not charge. My Sunrader, my daughter's Rav4 and her husband's Avalon. New alternator was the answer for all. Same indicator brake and charge light together. Usually takes a while to go completely so you get warning. Of course a broken belt would not be so kind

per                           LINDA a broken belt then your temp gage goes up of course .  have had 7 Toyotas all bad alternater aways causes both brake and charge light to come on . baffeled me first time it happened . years from 1977 1987 all same thing .
