hunkaman
Wondering if there is a "normal" duration for burner to stay on ? could not find any info regarding this in my water heater owners/instruction manual, looked at some you tube videos, again nothing to answer this question. it is an Atwood heater. Gas only operation. lit my water heater and after burner ignited, seemed to stay on for about 30 minutes. also, if the thermocouple is defective would this be cause for burner not shutting off in a timely manner? as always thanks in advance for any help. input. joe from dover. Maineah
Sounds normal. No on the thermocouple it only shuts the gas off if there is no pilot flame. You probably will find that the pilot light alone will keep your water hot overnight.
DanAatTheCape
I have the same unit - used it many times - if it cold out, 30-40 minutes, if it is warm then less. Once it warms up the pilot light will keep it hot. If I leave it on, depending on outside winds, I have caught a wiff of propane once in a while - with pilot on/ lit. When I got mine, the pilot was rather low. Blew that line out, works much better now.
