  1. Bought our '94 Winnebago Warrior with 30K miles on it in May and drove it from Seattle, Wash to Palmer, Alaska. We are now planning the return trip to store it near Seattle for some of the winter months. We will leave Alaska in late September camping at a couple hot springs to take a dip...Tahkini Hot Springs campground andLiard Hot Springs campground, both open year round! We will be travelling through Whitehorse, Fort Nelson,Fort St. John, and Prince George, then take the new highway to Vancouver and head to Seattle. Hoping the Canadians have fixed the highway between the Alaska/Canada border and Destruction Bay, B.C. It was a mess in May....huge potholes everywhere, broken asphalt, sharp edges, unbelievably rough road (a gravel road would've been a major improvement over this)...had to go 25mph on some parts of the 85-100 miles of destroyed highway. I've lived in Alaska for 62 years and have never seen a road in this bad of shape. (and we're known for our rough roads up here!) That was the only bad experience we had driving the Alcan in May, otherwise, beautiful scenery, lots of wildlife along side the road, great food (especially at A&W's in Canada...their beef is from range free local cattle and their fries are from local potatoes....absolutely no comparison to the cardboard filler burgers and processed frozen fries in U.S. A&W Drive-ins!) The Winnebago performed perfectly without a hitch! Go Toyota!
  2. Made the trip from Seattle to Palmer, Alaska in May. Turning around and heading back to Seattle end of September. Murphy loves travelling in our '94 Winnebago Toyo!
  3. Yep, will set it a few feet away when I need to use it. Everything is a go! My sister is flying in from Seattle tomorrow and we will be heading to Denali National Park to enjoy some hiking & canoeing/kayaking (even bought my dog a lifevest). If the weather cooperates I can show my sister the mountain at several scenic viewpoints around Talkeetna on the way up the highway. May even make it to Fairbanks and down the Richardson Hwy (one of the most idyllic scenic highways in Alaska). Great forum, thanks for all the advice & tips everyone.
  4. Thanks to everyone for great info. I've looked at the generator compartment and will be lowering the floor to fit the Honda 2000.
  5. Heading to Denali and maybe Fairbanks next week...will be on the lookout for Toyotas. Although, mid-week on the Parks Hwy is usually quiet compared to the Seward Hwy....mostly tourist buses, north slope trucking and occasional locals.
  6. Thanks for the info. Will look into the Onan 2800 Microlite....maybe one with low hours on Craigslist. I've thought of the rear bumper box for the Honda but didn't want a 55 lb payload (fully fueled) on the back. Lowering the generator box compartment floor sounds interesting and do-able. Thanks!
  7. Bought my 94 Warrior without a generator. Thought my home generator (Honda EU2000i) would work, but it's too big to fit in the Toyota compartment. Any suggestions for the best generator to buy?
  8. Wow, 30 Toyota Motorhomes spotted in Anchorage in the last 10 days....must be a caravan travelling together? I live near Anchorage and haven't seen one yet. We jumped on a plane to Seattle when we saw a 94 Winnebago Toy for sale on Craigslist....bought it and drove it up in May. We have yet to meet another Toyota RV on the road.
  9. Because of our very hot dry summer up here, you won't need mosquito dope in most places in Alaska. On the other hand you will need to stay apprised of where the fires are because of smoke and road closures. Most of southcentral Alaska is under control for the moment. Fairbanks had some smoke-choking days last week.
  10. Just drove the Alcan Highway in May (Seattle to Anchorage) and had 50 psi in all 6 tires. Also inflated airbags for a comfortable ride over those last 80-100 miles of nasty road just before the Alaska border. Have a good trip up! Fires in southcentral are smoldering but mostly out, highways are all open at this time.
  11. Bought our 1994 Winnebago Warrior with 30K miles on it and drove from Seattle to Anchorage in May 2015 (~2400 miles). No issues whatsoever, it just kept cruising. Our mpg ranged from 14mpg to 18mpg. Very happy to be a Toyota minimotorhome owner. We are frequently approached by folks who say they are either looking for one or would love to own one. Toyota minimotorhomes rock!
