  1. Over the past 3 months the term "luxury item" has become all too real for me. Please check my craigslist ad and forward it to anyone who is anywhere near me who would be interested. It's gotta go soon! I hate to no longer be a part of this group but I hope to rejoin very soon! anyway... heres the link with pics. Please let folks know about it. http://stlouis.craigslist.org/rvs/732672832.html thank you. james
  2. Mine is pretty difficult to deal with at times... sometimes the pilot goes out too :/ Does the ignition work?If you make ti sufficiently dark in the cabin and peer into that little hole you can see it trying to ignite. Does the pilot work? Oddly (to me) I get it to light best when the fan is blowing. Be sure to follow the directions on the heater as closely as possible. I know that sounds basic but its hard for me because theres some staining and discoloration on my directions. Tank on? I've done that a time or two.... Hard to say exactly whats wrong. Hope youre able to get it figured out.
  3. yes... tho you might not need emmissions anymore... you'll have to call your local guys and ask. and no... just needs to pass safety standards... lights, winsheild... etc on a side note tho... I would have the entire gas line tested for leaks professionally. just one of those things that you MUST have working correctly to sleep well.
  4. well I certainly wont argue. I had my mind on something non-invasive like a mount coming up from the bumper/pootube housing. Don't go out of your way but if you think about it feel free to tell me how it was done. Thanks! James My Dolphin looks a lot like yours cept I dont have the awning. Very nice
  5. Stuff looks magic. This would be good for large punctures too (say dime to quarter sized holes)? As far as interior replacement I'm reading more and more to just get the paneling used in bathrooms since they are more water resistant. I'm assuming it would be a smart move to move on to aluminum studs as well? I've got a lot to learn and I'm not sure what direction to go to pursue this... I appreciate everyones input and help on this
  6. My poor baby... she needs a lot of love and I need a lot of suggestions from anyone who can help. The owner before me had smoething tied down to the luggage rack during a bad storm and it acted like a sail, caught the wind and ripped the lugage rack from the metal and studs. He sent it to someone and they did their best to get the rack back on and put mountain of sealant around every spot where the rack attaches. Naturally this leaks like a mosnter and now I get to fix it or else loose my RV to water damage completely. (I THINK) First order of business would be to completely remove and trash the luggage rack. Its bent and f'd and just a problem at this point. Next would be to remove all teh gunk as best as possible and find all the holes. I asked a while back what sealant to use so I think I' m cool on that. But heres what I'm wondering.... Is there something that could be considered a little more permenant to fill in these larger holes in the metal like bondo or something? and THEN cover with the vulcum? I know this missing luggage rack is gonna leave a lot of big holes and I'd' like a better way to manage them. Would it be a better idea to totally replace the outside metal on the roof? is that even possible? Any sorta upgrade options like fiberglass or something? I appreciate any help I can get from you all. - James Cedar Hill, MO
  7. Off topic... how did you get your spare tire to mount back there? My undercarriage mount is shot and now my luggage rack is too... tire needs a new home... any suggestions would help
  8. I have one and am pretty curious myself what I would ask someone for it. My dad said I would be lucky gettign $2k but I really think it's worth more than that when I look over craigslist and even compare it to other RVs in the same class. Why not $4k?? Somewhere between 1500 and 3k... depending upon condition. Sorry for the general shot.
  9. Has anyone converted their interior lighting to LED or any other energy saving lighting? I've looked around quite a bit and maybe I just don't know the right terms to search for. The 85 Dolphin has 12v dome/courtesy lights all over the inside and I'd love switch so something more conservative. Also, I'd preferr the light to be at the warmer end of the spectrum if thats an option. If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it Thanks! James
  10. funny I was just about to ask this question too... I would hope that the cabover makers considered at least 400-500lbs being in that space. I'm 280 and I layed up on mine for a bit... the part the lifts away seemed a little weak to me but I'm willing to buck up for a stronger board to replace it with. The sofa sleeper seemed a little weak too but i think I'm just nervous about the construction sometimes. Even if they used the lowest possible standards for a couple sleeping up there... I'd sat it could at least handle 350lbs... but this is a guess. I'll see if I can find anything in the mostly useless manual tomorrow.
  11. my apologies for the delay... I believe mine is 18 foot. bathrom, kitchen and door in the back.
  12. After following advice from this site I called National RV, the makers of my 1985 Dolphin, on March 30th about taking advantage of the recall of the 5 lug axle. After a little confusion and several transfers I was given the voicemail of Owner's Relations Manager Robert Brown. I was instructed to leave my name, number, reason for calling and VIN. The weekend has gone and its Monday April 02. At the crack of noon (CST) I get a call from Robert and he gives me the following instructions that I now pass on to future generations Robert Needs: - Picture of RV (To prove its a Dolphin. No pic of axle required.) - Photocopy of vehicle registration. (The Title) - Include a letter with your name, address and phone number. - Also include information about the local shop that will do the work. (I assume that an individual couldn't do it for recall/warranty reasons. I didn't ask otherwise.) Send all this information to National RV 3411 N. Perris Blvd. Perris, CA 92571 ATTN: Robert Brown Robert Brown can be contacted at: 1-800-999-7260 ext4230 After he processes your information then he will call you and "let you know what to do next." He indicated that the axle will be shipped to a repair shop (or they will negotiate one) and it was up to me to flip the rest of the bill. Not a bad deal if you ask me. Much cheaper than driving the Dolphin from St. Louis to Perris, CA. Not as fun tho... I was looking forward to making an excuse for the road trip. I'll update in a month or so when I can afford to get the work done. Good luck! James E
  13. ok cool... so this is good for indoor/outdoor? sorry... just want to be sure i get the right stuff. Maybe also a suggestion on the best way to clean the old stuff away. Thanks for your time man
  14. The first good rain of the season and I get to find all my leaks in my 85 Dolphin! The first leak is no problem... new weather stripping for the door. The second larger leak, however, is the around the exhaust fan in the ceiling. I'm assuming what I need to do is remove the fan assembly, clean off the whole area really good, let the area dry out really well, set the fan back in on a large bead of sealant and then seal the rest of the area around it. SO... the question is... what sort of caulk stuff should I use? More than one kind? Is there a general sealant I should run over everything? I have a Home Depot nearby so I can get anything they sell there. Any advice? Much appreciated! James E
