  1. Thanks everyone for your feedback. I will try a small window first. I will also inspect the roof seams and try to figure out if it is an issue. Question about the seams along the edge of the Dolphin, between the roof and the sides of the RV == do you seal that also with the butyl tape? And how would I do that since there is that metal strip that holds the rubber cover? I appreciate all your help and encouragement!
  2. Hello, I am starting to work on my '88 Dolphin again. I noticed that some of the caulk along the seams and windows is dried and cracked; some of it is silicone and mushy; and some of it seems to be the correct butyl caulk. Can anyone please give me some advice on what to do? I was planning to cut out all the caulk and then recaulk. Is there a better way to do this? I have some leakage around a few windows. At the same time, I want to recaulk the vents on the roof. I don't have any leaks from roof vents so far. The roof itself is in good shape but could use a paint or seal. It's aluminum, right? Anything recommended? I get a fair amount of leakage around the front of the motorhome near the front over-cab window and I suspect from the side seam that is along the top. Any hints or suggestions would be welcome or directions to an earlier post. Looking forward to getting on the road in August. Thanks, Kathleen in CA
  3. Hello: I live in CA and want to protect my Dolphin from the winter rains in the Central Valley. Can anyone recommend an RV cover that will work with a 22' Dolphin? I have heard that it is important to have tyvec or several layers in order to reduce moisture under the cover. I have a large tarp that can cover my rig but I am afraid of condensation and mildew. I just spent a lot of money getting everything resealed on my '88 Dolphin so I want to protect it. Thanks for any advice. Cheers, Kathleen
  4. Monterey, thanks for the advice. The carpet is very difficult to get out but I will persevere. The cedar interior sounds great == I don't have the skill to do that so will probably stick with paint. Thanks again.
  5. Ya Baby, thanks. Wow that wood floor looks fantastic! I wish I hadn't torn out half of my carpet already. I found some indoor/outdoor carpet that I figure I can put over the curved carpet inside without too much trouble. thanks for that suggestion. I also like your curtains and the backsplash by the stove. Very nicely done. Did you also reupholster? If so did you do it yourself? I will be replacing the foam cushions and am thinking of putting a thin foam layer over the couch and reupholster over it. Always something!!!
  6. Thanks everyone for your input and advice. I thought that "a battery is a battery" -- wrong. I will start my battery search later this week. Cheers, Kathleen
  7. Someone took out the original sized battery from my Dolphin and replaced it with one that barely fits the side compartment and now it is dead. So I am wondering what group battery fits into the compartment? Someone told me it is Group 24? I didn't realize that batteries had difference amperage beside their size dimensions! Thanks for your help!
  8. Thanks for the quick responses! It sounds like some type of hard flooring is preferable with perhaps the carpet over the top. How did you deal with the carpet wrapping on the wall between the cab and camper? It looks to me like this was factory installed and stripped down to the plywood it seems like it would be difficult to do vinyl or other on the curving surfaces. Many thanks for any suggestions.
  9. Hello, I am new to the forum. I have a 1988 Dolphin that I am finally putting back together. I need some advice on finishing the floor and walls. For the floor, I have started ripping out the carpet (not as easy as I thought). I was going to put adhesive tile, but wondered if it is better to have carpet since 1) there are lots of staples in the plywood floor; and 2) insulation. What have you done? I have 2 dogs so I want something easy to clean. The carpet in the cab also needs changing. And I am worried about all the curving parts of the interior that currently have carpet wrapped around == did you find a creative way with fabric, vinyl, etc? Second are the walls. I have used Kilz painted over the wallpaper and also on the plywood under the wallpaper where the wallpaper was coming off. I have some water damage near some windows, and have glued and sanded in these areas. I was thinking about painting with an egg shell paint with a texture added to cover the wall imperfections. Have you done this? Any better suggestions? Thank you so much. I have received some great advice from this forum in the past.
