  1. I was camping recently and it appears that someone stole my spare tire and wheel off the back of my 1987 Toyota Itasca ... From my first talks with the tire shop it sounds like that could be a hard wheel to find .... it is a 6-lug wheel. Anybody have any suggestions as to a good place to find one might be?
  2. It was original with the rv ... It's a Carefree Freedom I think.... The crank mechanism on it is stripped out, so I havs to roll it in and out with a modified ratchet wrench ... A bit of a pain ... also, you can't tell from the pic, but it's green and white striped ... a bit too circus-tentish for me, but it does the job ...
  3. Thanks Lance .... I live in the Portland area too ... who built it? ... care to give me a ballpark figure what it cost?

  5. Thanks John ... Yeah I wondered about the integrity of that back wall ... right now I have my spare tire on a rear bumper rack ... Probably the bumper beef-up is the best way to go ... and yes 2 gallons would be fine .... I always go into overkill mode whenever I tackle a project... My wife saw me posting this and let me know, by the way, she doesn't want a box on the back .... "It would look funky." .... whatever ... I'm always thinking in survival mode too ... I would like to be self contained in case Armageddon breaks out ... ) .... maybe a smaller generator and a one gallon can of gas will do ...
  6. I have an idea for building a rear storage box on the back of my 1987 Toy Itasca ... I know the bumper really isn't built to hold a lot of weight, so I was thinking of building a box that attaches directly to the outside rear wall of the coach ... I would like it just to hold my generator (about 40 pounds), a 5 gallon can of gas and my spare tire. Anybody ever do anything like that? Am I crazy, stupid, naive ... ? All of the above?
  7. What does a hard start capacitor do? I have a 2000 amp generator that also overloads with my ac on ... any solution for this or do I just have to get a bigger generator?
  8. Here's what I did ... went to the local plumbing shop and presto! Nick "Widespot" Peterson
  9. I have exactly the same problem .... let me know if you find a source for one. Thanks!
  10. I just bought a 1987 Toyota Itasca -- 21' -- this is my first rv/motorhome so I'm pretty green. First off mine does not have a generator. What are my options for adding a generator? Also I haven't yet hooked up to shore power. What do I need to know about that? I see the plug is not standard and I'm electrically naive and don't want to do anything to damage the system. Thanks for any help.
  11. Thanks Dennis that helps this no-clue newbie. )
