  1. Outside Air Temperature - Cold air can impact Fuel economy, especially during the initial warm-up time for EFI engines. (EFI will run richer until the engine gets up to Operating Temperature) John Mc 88 Dolphin 4 auto
  2. Reference the photo. The hose has a small leak where it goes into the regulator. I think the regulator also has a small leak. I'm thinking or replacing everything, and switch over to the new style hand tighten stuff. Rather than put the regulator on the end of the hose that screws into the tank, I was thinking of mounting the regulator on the pipe that supplies all the appliances (lower right of photo) A 3 or 4 ft hose would screw into the regulator, and the other end would hand screw onto the tank valve (ACME fitting). Also would need to either get an adapter for the tank, or replace the valve assembly on the tank. Any thoughts or suggestions????? John MC 88 Dolphin 4 auto
  3. Just drove 1600 miles, Albuquerque NM to Toledo Ohio. 22R with EFI and auto trans with Overdrive. I've come to theconclusion that the OD can only be used on straight and level, with a slight tail wind I-40 between Albuquerque and the Texas boarder is 7,000 ft elevation, moderate grades. I had the cruise control set at 60 and it was able to hold it most of the time. Averaged about 14.5 mpg John Mc 88 Dolphin 4 auto
  4. Just purchased a brand new :-) 1988 Dolphin, 4 Cyl, Auto Trans. Did a Pre-purchase with e-mail and about 100 photos. Put down a $200 non refundable deposit, Then Flew out to Albuquerque NM. Looked it over and it was everything that was advertised. Absolutely ZERO rust (lived in NM all it life) Drove it 1700 miles back to Toledo Ohio with no problems. Currently going through it, cleaning up, fixing little things that need attention. We're planning on driving it to Dead Horse Alaska next spring about 10,000 miles round trip.
  5. The manual on my 88 Dolphin says 17 gal. When I picked it up in New Mexico and drove it back to Ohio (1600 miles), I stopped by a Walmart and bought a 2 gal gas can. I never ran the tank dry, but on two legs, I needed 16 gallons and the fuel gauge was about 1 needle below the E. I averaged about 14.5 mpg running at 60mph I concluded that I can plan 200 mile legs, a little over three hours. And ALways carry a full 2 gallon can. JOhn Mc 88 Dolphin 4 auto
  6. PPL Motorhomes had a complete kit that includes new rollers, metal hangars, bottom guides, door knob buttons, screws, etc. BIRDseye Part # 80012 Pocket Door Replacement Hardware Brass. Cost was about $7.00 JOhn Mc 88 Dolphin 4 auto
  7. My Bath door is hanging by one roller. The back guide (roller) is broken so I had to figure out how the door was mounted and remove it. Its actually easier than I originally thought. 1) remove the trim piece from the top (I removed the bathroom side, a little less conspicuous in case I make a mistake. Use a pocket knife to cut the RTV corners. Then start in the middle and using a screwdriver, pry the piece of wood away from the frame. After its off, push the staples out as I'll reattach the piece with one or two screws in case I ever need to remove it again. 2) Once the small wood trim piece is off, you can see the track and the top of the door. 3) If you look at the roller mount on top of the door, there is a small plastic piece that locks the roller to the top of the mount, move that plastic piece and the roller assembly will slide out of the metal mount. The door can then be removed. On my door, the rear plastic lock piece broke and the roller slid out of the metal mount. I need to find another metal mount, or perhaps figure out a way to lock the pin in the mount. John Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  8. I took Bobs advice on checking the Tire dates on my Brand New :-) 88 Dolphin. When I looked at the date codes on my tires, they all appear to be circa 1995-1997. Wow, 13 and 14 year old tires, probably acceptable for an around town clunker automobile, but not for "at gross weight" operations on long road trips. In searching through the topics and found one in particular that offered up some good advise on purchasing the tires at the lowest price (I need 6, maybe 7, look at all the tires and determine best condition/date) http://toyotamotorhome.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2016 It seems Discount Tire (a national tire chain) has a feature called something like; "I found a lower Price", and they will match or beat that price. The Forum search also steered me toward a $70 price tag for the Hankook 185R14 8 ply, light truck tire. (called out as RA08) When I entered that link and my Zip code into Discounts web site, it says they'll get back to me. I'll keep you posted on the outcome of this very important topic. Discount Tire Link: (look under the price and click the "Found it Lower" link) http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/tires/hankook/product/submitProductSize.do?r=WASINT|pc|98203&pc=11011 On Line tire sells for $70 each http://www.onlinetires.com/products/vehicle/tires/hankook/185%252F00-14+hankook+ra08+n%252Fa.html BusDepot sells for $76 each http://www.busdepot.com/details.jsp?partnumber=RA08
  9. I'm new to this (just bought a 88 Dolphin), I've been thinking about your exact same scenerio, and heres what I'm probably going to do: I don't have a generator, my approach to the morning coffee and afternoon microwave was to use a 1500 watt inverter. http://www.donrowe.com/inverters/cobra_1500.html Anytime I run the inverter for these high power items, start the main engine and let it help supply power to the coach battery NOTE -I may purchase one of those 2000 watt honda inverter-generators and plug the toyhouse into it, still thinking about that approach.
