  1. My 1989 Dolphin is missing one of the rear caps. It is plastic, says Dolphin on it, gray plastic held on with two screws. Are these available somewhere? or can I get something to match at Auto Zone? Thanks John in NH
  2. I know of all the bad press these 3.slows get. I hope some of it is unfounded, lots of those things running around. I have two center cylinders with low compression, 85 psi and 125 psi. on my 89. I checked out the valve lash and found both exhaust valves too tight to get any sized feeler gauge in between. I don't have the special plyers to depress the valve, was thinking of making a tool, any ideas? Biggest question is with an engine with only 53k on it, what are the chances the exh valves are tuliped? When I pulled the injection plenum, HUGE deep mouse nest, full of home insulation, nuts, etc. Bet this helped heat up the center cylinders...Thanks in advance, John in NH
  3. I used a scope on one of the cylinders with low compression on my 3.0 with 53K miles and found a large build up of carbon between the valve and seat. 1st compression check hot was 75 psi. Second reading was 125. 3rd reading 85 psi. I have put some valve/injection cleaner in the tank and will run it for a while. On the old carbureted engines we used to trickle water into the carb to break up carbon. Anyone ever tried it on a fuel injected engine? Which vacuum hose would be best? Thanks, John
  4. Thanks, I will make some more calls Monday. Is there a chance that they would still warranty a 20 year old engine? If I don't get anywhere with Toyo I considered swapping to the 4 cylinder for dependability. I found a 1989 Toyo 2wd 4 cyl auto on Craigs list with 89k for $1500.00 This would make a great donor truck. Is the 4 cylinder enough horsepower? Lots of the out there... Thanks, John
  5. I was thinking about a leak down test or putting oil in the cylinders and testing again. This would also tell me if it was rings or valves. I called my local Toyo dealer concerning the head gasket recall and they said that since the vin # did not come up, it must have been corrected. No date, no info, I'm doubtful. Shame, such a clean rig and it runs well, but has this issue...
  6. I have the 3.0 in my rig, 1989 with only 53K miles. Two centerr cylinders are low compression. What is the concensus with these engines, fix them or change them? Thanks John
  7. Hello all, New to this site. I picked up an 89 Dolphin 21' V6 this week that has been sitting a long time. The truck body is very clean but the camper part needs a serious cleaning. What are these things made of and what do you clean/buff them with? It looks like fiberglass or plastic, is flexible, very dulled out. Thanks, John
