  1. I have a SHURflo Diaphragm Pump that's not working. I can feel it getting warm, but nothing sounds like it's moving inside. I checked for kinks, put it's pretty straight forward and looks alright. When I had my Odyssey taken in for electrical work, I asked the guy to check out a couple other things, including the water pump. He turned it on and it started up (no water in the tank) for a couple seconds, then it seemed to seize up, he suggested that when I get water in there and are ready to use it to bang on it a few times . Not sure where to go from here, I banged on it a few times with a hammer and it didn't seem to work... maybe just put a new one in (if so recommendations welcome). Thanks Janna
  2. I had serious concerns about the axle on my '84 Odyssey and assumed that it had been part of the recall. I finally checked out the NHTSA website and found out that the recall applied only to some 180 models sold in '85 and '86. And not to the ones manufactured by General RV (which mine is). This was a very pleasant surprise, but I'm no axle expert and now I'm curious what makes mine different. Should I still have any concerns? Thanks Janna
  3. I have an '84 Odyssey on a 4-cylinder 22-R with a carburator. I took it in to get smogged and it failed. The smog guy noticed and showed me a missing butterfly from the choke. This was the cause of the vehicle to idle high and also be a pain in the butt to start (I have to pump on the gas forever or using starting fluid). He advised me the best solution was to take out the carburator, add the missing part(s) from a used parts carb. and 'overhaul'/clean the thing. I would like to know anyone's opinion on this. I went and talked to a Toyota mechanic and he was in accordance with the smog guy. The mechanic seemed legit and admitted that he wouldn't even want to tackle such a project, especially for what the smog guy wants to charge me($500). I have to get the vehicle to pass smog! And I'm not sure what else to do. Thanks Janna
