  1. I season my pans by cooking some old fashion fry cakes (doughnuts) Some people will think it disgusting but they taste best when cooked in very hot lard. They taste great, just don't tell people what you cooked them in. Most of my friends ask what was for supper AFTER we eat. They know it will be good, they just never know what it will be, might be bear, elk, venison, wild turkey?

Every thing tastes better when fried in lard and its the only thing to use for biscuits. Besides the Dutch Oven I have a 22"x3/16" plow disc that has been converted into a Wok and a 65,000btu propane burner. Not real handy to store but boy does it cook great

  2. Go to Ebay and search Lodge Dutch Ovens. Make sure you get one with a rimed lid so you can bake in your oven and not just cook in it. Wait for a good $$, including shipping cause these suckers are heavy.

Maybe Goodwill like your friend. Although here in WY everybody knows what they are and they disappear fast.

Mine is 4 years old and just starting to cook great.

  3. Remember you driving a automatic that was designed to work in a 1/2 ton pickup that was driven mostly empty.

You are smarter than it is. You need a tach to know when to shift. No tach then go to the files and use the mph converter and mark your speedo. I use 3000 rpm as a down shift point when climbing the mountains and 4500 rpm as upshift point. Down shifting going down hill is also a good idea. Just remember the engine rpm limits.

Manual shifting of an auto causes no harm as long as you respect the rpm limits of the engine. When your done with the ups and downs, just shift back into drive and the trannie is back to a normal transmission.

If your sure about your transmission behavor in queston 2, you have a problem. Check the fliud levels and go to the FSM in the files and learn how to check/adjust the kickdown cable.

  4. The only substitute for cubic inches is cubic money. Or as they also say speed cost money how fast is your wallet.

    Before i supercharged a 22r, i would just install a bigger engine.

I had warped head so I did what I did to fix the problem and make a little more power. From what I figured out my engine was in the 130-135 hp range. A stock rebuild would have been in the 1000 range, so 20 hp for 200 extra was ok. 20 hp for 1200 wouldnt be such a good deal

  5. I done the cam plus other things. End result was 13.7 mpg at 60-65 W/O OD. I used a 270 degree cam from http://www.engnbldr....a-hotlicks.html

Also new head with O/S valves and a good 3 angle valve job, an oversized throttle butterfly and a good 2.25 exhaust system

It was a little doggie from a standing start up to around 7mph, then things started working. It was much better in the hills, instead of chugging over the top at 40mph I could climb at 55mph. Much better when on the interstate.

I think this engine with a 4.88 rear axle and selective use of the OD would have been perfect on a 18ft Raider. I had a 21 ft Escaper, I thought a lot about the 4.88 but because I pull a trailer I decided to not go there. I don't think the OD would work well with the trailer.
