  1. OK I guess that makes sense but how will I know when #1 is TDC peer through spark lug hole (sorry Q mark not working...

so loosen the lock nut, then turn the second nut to either open or close the valve to spec, then just retighten the lock nut do I have to keep wrenches on both nuts while tightening the lock to keep the adjust nut from moving or will it hold

Use the timing marks on the front there will be marks at TDC. With the spark plugs out you should be able to turn the engine with a wrench on the alternator pulley nut.

Your making this into a big deal, it isn't... just do it :)

  2. Buy block ice and keep it in the freezer section. It will last as long as anything else and is easy to find.

Ice needs to be up top and dry ice on the bottom, unless you want a big freezer.

Also keep the door closed as much as possible, a small cooler for drinks is a good idea.

  3. Many many years ago I lived across from an outdoor walkin theater. Sit on the porch eat popcorn and every nite a free movie. Way cool if it was a good movie, not so cool if it was a B grade monster flick.

  4. The valve confuses a lot of people. First its mechincal not electronic.

On a standard empty PU the bias is lots of front brakes because there is no traction on the rear. Loaded, the rear sets lower and the valve sends more brake to the rear, because there is more traction.

A toy MH has 4 tires so more traction, BUT the first thing that happens is airbags. Now your toy has more traction because of the extra 1 ton of weight and with 4 tires but it is setting level because of the heavy springs and airbags. Level to the bias valve means empty truck so it sends the brake force to the fronts.

What you need to do is raise the bar for the valve so that it thinks loaded PU and sends more brake to the rear. Trial and error will get you to the point where the fronts lockup just before the rears, On my toy that setting was the bar wired up to the frame

  5. The transmission pan holds about 2 qts. You to drain and drive several times to get most of the fluid changed. The filter on a toy is just a bug screen thing if its plugged you have major problems. ALSO check the transmission shift cable for correct adjustment.

  6. A little experminting is needed. Measure the heigth inside of the tank. Lay your sender on a piece of card board and do some ploting till you get the float travel right.

You might need spmething like a z bend to adjust the full and then change the length to get the empty right

I went all this to get my gauge right.

  7. Living in WY we use BLM land a lot for weekends and fishing trips.

Its just those pesky 1 month vacation trips that force us into the campground. This summer it was ID, OR, CA, NV and UT for 3 weeks. Any of the places that are high desert you can be comfortable at night with out AC. Its that's low desert stuff that is a PIA.

  8. With planning its possible, but even then there limits on what can be done. Some things Ive learned.
    1. Reflectix is good, there is no such thing as too much. I had window shields, I also covered the wall under the seats and in the cabinets.
    2. Full winterziation. Carry bottle water for drinking, flush with a mix of rv antifreeze, forget about showers.
    3. Have 2 coach batteries. Use AGM batts so you can keep them inside and warm. A battery at 0 degrees loses %50 of its capacity.
    4. A solar panel is needed to keep up the batteries. OR plan on at least an hour of driving each day.
I've camped for 3 days in 0 degree weather before my batteries were exhausted. I had 210 Ah worth of AGM batteries and a 100w solar panel. But with clouds the solar panel could not keep up. The heater runs about 30% of the time
    5. Unless there is chain law in effect a Toy with duals has an amazing amount of traction, braking not so much just be careful.
I once spent 1 night at -30 with 110v . The electric space heater ran 100% and my propane heater still ran at %50. Funny thing I found was at COLD temps propane doesn't evaporate very good. I couldn't run my stove to cook on and the heater at the same time.

  9. The Wal-mart I use is 8mi from home. Its not a travel trip but a checkout camp.

Going cross country we stay a Wal-Marts when we can. 3 nites at Wal-Mart then a night at a camp ground for water, dump and wash clothes. Down south we spend a lot more time in campgrounds, because its just to hot and muggy to dry camp.
