The front weight should be OK, most Toys weigh less than 2500lbs on the front axle. So as Linda said weigh your toy to be sure and if the weight is under 3000lb run the tires till they are worn out. The only possible problem is which size tire do you carry for a spare??
  3. Check the shut off valve, does it use voltage to open AND close it? Or is it Voltage open spring close? See if it comes apart and price a new one. Decide piece of mind or $$$
  4. Blow out the lines one at a time. Use the vacuum to suck the water out of the p-traps. To keep the stinkies at bay pour a bit of vegetable oil in each p trap to seal it, same with the toilet seal. When you use it next year the oil will flush out and help lube the seals in the dump system.
  5. You need to find a shock that fits your truck. Check the stroke, check your Bilsteins. If the stroke is off, making it fit won't do much good. To install, maybe remove the cross bar on the shock and install from the top.
  6. IF you have a solenoide isolater, here's a simple trick to get every erg of energy to the house battery. Just hook the house battery and the alterator out put to the same side, the truck battery goes to the other side. The isolater still works as designed, but now the house battery gets priority charging. As long as your truck starts in normal Toyota fashion the truck battery will be charged just fine.
  7. Inductive timing lights are less than $30, just buy one and keep it for use on old stuff.
  8. Just start the engine, the alternator will boost the voltage.
  9. Set engine at TDC with #1 cylinder on compression (both valves closed) Install spark plug cap on distributor and mark distributor where #1 wire is. Remove cap Install rotor and install distributor in engine. Rotor should point to #1 mark on distributor. If not remove and move things 1 tooth and reinstall. Make sure that the adjustor bolt is in the middle of its range.
  10. Not exactly what you wanted, but some ideas to look at. http://www.letsgoaero.com/products-page/cargo-carriers-hitch-luggage-box-tow/enclosed-cargo-carrier-luggage-hitch-boxes/ http://tailgatecargobox.com/Home_Page.html in action P.S. 3/4 ply wood is heavy a 60"x18x18 would weigh a bunch even empty
  11. Hey that stuffs in my backyard. What I struggle over in a MH at 30 mph is called South Pass, its the lowest path through the Rockies on the Northern route. Think of doing it at 10 miles a DAY. The Pony Express, Oregon trail, the Mormon trail and of course the Ca trail all go through South Pass. Before the BLM closed off the land you could ride out to one of the old Pony Express way stations. Along the way are Sweetwater Station, Split Rock, Muddy Gap and Independence Rock. Plug the Willey Handcart monument, think Donner party but not as infamous.
  12. A battery drill, a trip to an RV salvage yard and a couple of pop rivets should fix you right up.
  13. The only things you need to know is that the 6 hole rims need a flanged lug nut, and the 86 axle will have left hand threads on the drivers side
  14. The larger pads work to about 10 degrees, but they are power suckers when they are on for hours at a time
  15. I guess that rip-rap primer isn't the only thing used to cover up installation screw-ups. When I redid my windows I used up a lot of paint stir sticks as shims to really center things in the cutouts. Some of those were touch and go as to if they would seal properly. One window I had to use 5300 on as the margin was about 3/16"
  16. Molly anchors or Rivnuts will give you something to bite into on a thin surface.
  17. Weird idea, could you use a strip of corrugated fiberglass roofing panels?? Its cheap and you could cut 2" strips across the panel and then glue the corrugated to the side. It would give you a furring strip about 3/4" of so thick with min weight..
  18. 22re,auto, ps. On a hot engine,1 hr. Remove distributor, power steering pump. Remove alt, reinstall new alt. If you mark the distributor you wont need to reset the timing. No radiator draining, no transmission leaks. The auto parts store like no spills in their lot.
  19. I check the Rock site and in 5 min found front rotors, rear drums, shoes and pads, and rear drum spring kits. The magic is Toyota... 1989.... Pickup....v.6. The buzz words in each category are DRW (Dual rear wheels) or 1 ton or the chassis model (RN75 etc.)
  20. Do it the right way or put a tarp over it. Re-redoing windows is a PIA so don't go there.
  21. Yea so are the businesses in the gateway cities around the park. Oct is their last big tourist push before winter shut down.
  22. Original converter/chargers can be really lame. They have a low charge rate and still can boil a battery dry in long term storage. One of the best things you can do is to install a modern 3 stage converter/charger, your battery will love you for doing so. For long term storage I just take 10 amp fuse and using a pigtail holder place it across the isolator. This will let the charger charge both batteries. Remove the fuse in the spring. Should you forget ,the fuse it will pop the first time you start the engine and return the isolator to its normal status. Next winter you can buy another $.50 fuse.
  23. Yellowstone advised campers that you have 48 hr to get out of Dodge, no new campers allowed into the park.
