  1. BajaD- Great Story! - I believe "FEAR" can be our #1 enemy - a close 2nd could be "IGNORANCE". - In this case, you knew where you were, and you kept your cool. I was thinking of packing GaryMac's Raging Bull on my little Idaho trip, but the kickback would probably knock me out. I Could always take along a banjo. s
  2. <Deep sigh of relief> See, I knew you guys would have my back on this one. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Going to "totally do" the sign idea and will use the "low gear" technique on the steep inclines. Plan on traveling really, really light: just me, my oldest daughter, a fiddle, a guitar, a few bottles of water and some dry goods. Sadie is equipped with a "hill brake". I've never used it. I'm not even sure what it's for. Any advice there?
  3. Wow! I've been major out of touch! Look at all the new members!!!!!! Hiya everyone!!! It's gonna take me weeks to read up on all the savvy bites and updates from the toy gurus and cool-as-beans posters. While I catch up, I'll toss this out there. I am itching to take Sadie to visit St Maries Idaho: Starting point Shawnee, Oklahoma. I have been told that I was there once as a child. I don't remember. I've also been told by people I love, but don't want to believe, that my little 81 Sunrader won't make the mountains. (I think this is strange since her prior owners drove her down from Spokane WA.) I know uphill will be slow going. I have no problem with that, but my very boring and stodgy flatland advisors have put images of "the little train couldn't" in my head. I've begun having nightmares of my precious little motorhome sliding backwards down steep gravely mountain roads into the cavernous black abyss. I don't even know what kind of questions to start asking? I won't be leaving until the end of June I hope I'm being silly, and the only thing standing between me and the St. Joe is really just MPHs and MPGs. Any pointers???? Thanks shanda
  4. Oh that's a riot!!!! Brother Allen, you know us pretty well! Sadie would love the blue.
  5. Yoyo, Your design is really clean and professional. I like it alot. Good work. s
  6. Hi Jesse and Courtney, Welcome to the family! I've been kinda out of pocket and thought I'd check in. Saw your post and wasn't sure if someone has already addressed your 6 lug question. Decided to drop a line or two. Sadie had the same 5 lug faux dual rearend issue when I bought her in May of '08. After parusing many old posts re: the dreaded 5 lug, I realized that a switch needed to be at the top of my priority list. The past posts on this forum and it's members were incredibly helpful in making sure I asked the right questions while I searched, and also when it came for me to buy and ship the parts. I found Sadie's new rearend at www.toyotasalvage.com in Pheonix. You're in the right place. The toy gurus on this forum hold a very special place in our hearts. Take your time while searching topics and reviewing past entries. Take notes too You're gonna have an awesome year! Shanda

  16. From one beer drinkin' musician to another, Welcome to the Forum!!!

  17. Glitech, Since it's leaking inside the window first before running down the wall, my guess is that the rain seeps through a small gap between the actual glass/plexi and the frame..... You mentioned you've caulked all around the outside of the windows. I've actually caulked in the plexi too (since the front and back windows don't open). That seemed to fix Sadie's seeping windows. Someone once advised drilling weep holes. I thought this was a great idea and was geared up to do it had the caulk not worked. (The side sliding windows should already have weep holes.) Just remember, caulk shrinks over time and should be replaced every few years or so. The Joy of the Toy Abounds, shanda
  18. Sadie's water heater just needed a new thermo coupler....5 bucks for a universal at the plumbing store.... shanda Welcome to the Forum Musician Man!
  19. Wow! Great advise all! Will get the dehumidifying pellets to start.....(think I saw those at Walmart), and I've ordered the Marine Catalog to paruse....(Bet that Drybunk underlay will be useful, even in the cabinets.) Was thinking of changing out Sadie's Evaporative cooler for a solar fan anyway, so good to know I'm on the right track there.....will install one in the wethead too. Until then, I'll keep the cabinet doors open!!! Fantastic! Thanks so much you guys!!!!!! shanda
  20. Hi Toy family, Hope all is well, and our full timers have found a warm place to snuggle in for the winter. The following is my most recent Sadie situation. (By the way, she's doing well, and really happy now that I've painted her back wheel wells and front hub caps bright orange.) Please read on. All advice and suggestions are welcome. A free Sunday Morning...finally..beautiful!!!!! Sun shining, temperature rising from misty mid 50's to 65F....70F.....75F.....aahhh. I love the Fall. Thought I'd set out my old tent to dry. (Borrowed by a friend for a music fest.....Put away wet...I said, "Oh don't worry about that....I'll set her up in a day or two"). Took me about 2 weeks to finally get around to it, since it'd rained almost every day since then. Up went the tent, and then why not air out the motorhome while I was at it. "Hello Lady Sadie, how are you?" Learned of a new Sadie leak....somewhere around the bottom of the door I think, since the carpet was soaked right as I stepped in bare footed. Dried up what I could with towels and left the sun do the rest by propping open the door and bungeeing it to the side mirror. Might as well do a little motorhome house cleaning too. Open the windows, wipe down the sink and stove, air out the blankets, open the cupboards....What??????? Why was everything wet? Not sopping....just cold and wet....like droplets on a can of beer after you pull it out of the ice chest on a hot, summer d.....Ah.....that's it!!!! Condensation!!!!! It had been so cold in the evenings, and so rainy, that as the air warmed on Sunday, and the sky cleared, the humidity started collecting on anything cold....even in Sadie's closed cabinets...... The pickle jars, the cans of soup, the mixing bowls, the coffee cups. There was so much condensation that I was concerned that there had been a leak above or on the walls. Nope....everything else was dry....just glass and anything holding a liquid. Eww...that can't be good!!!! So, I opened the cabinets to air them out as well, and dry up the condensation even on the Aunt Jemima and Jameson's. So here's my question: Does anyone have any suggestions on keeping condensation at bay, or is this something to deal with during this goofy, hot/cold/hot time of year? Hope everyone had a wonderful Summer!!!! Glad to see so many new forum members have joined the group. What a cool place to be!!! shandamac
