  1. Hello Comrades, I plan to go to Truth or Consequences,NM for the winter. I plan to stay there about 2 months and then travel down near Houston and look around. From there I'll be flying out to South America to visit friends and travel. I am looking for a place to store my 'TOY' "Rambo" for a couple of months before returning. I know some campgrounds will lead you to a place, but I can't see spending $50 a month for a facility. Does anyone know the area or have any ideas of inexpensive storage ideas ? New Mexico is pretty cheap at $15 a month, but I would have to take a bus to Sante Fe and airfare from there is about $300 more. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Dave
  2. Hi Joni, I have had a similiar problem with my '91 Odyssey. The bolts we're causing stress fractures to the rear wall creating a leak. I would have never known it was there until I pulled up the old carpet. Therefore, I removed the plate and patched the cracks with eternabond temporarily until I can fix it right. I added a small cargo box to the rear when I added a hitch to tow my motorcycle. I installed the original spare tire chain hoist underneath the chassis. I found the part at www.YOTAYARD.com , they sent me a good used chain hoist with shipping for $35 and came from Denver so there wasn't rust and corrosion. If anyone needs original chassis parts I would recommend looking them up. Good Luck, ACE
  3. I went to the rally and had a wonderful time, even by myself~~~single! Everything Dennis said about "great folks, comradary and things we did was a great experience! Some of the "Toy models" were we quite unique in how they we're personalized to fit each personality. It was quite educational and rewarding to exchange all the knowledge and experiences we encountered. The location of things to do was unlimited fun and the area was quite diverse to fit everyones interests. Dennis did a fantastic job in organizing this rally as a "A GREAT SUCCESS". So if any of you are out wandering in the territory next year, I seriously recommend you plan on attending . Best to all, ACE
  4. This is going to to GREAT FUN ! I know Dennis very well and he has worked very hard to organize this fun for all. There is not any TOY Rallies in this neck of the woods for us Mid-Westerners. They all seem to be out west having fun. So if you're familier with how beautiful this part of the country is you'll really appreciate the scenery at this time of year. We are going to have a great time ...... so come on and join us. There's lots to do in this area and just imagine sharing all our 'TOYS' and stories! Dave
  5. You 'HAVE A BIG JOB TO DO'! When it comes to reseals from the roof down, take your time and do it right. I suggest you pull and replace all your vents and use metal, not plastic stacks. Clean off as much as you can, be careful with the aluminum roof not to punch any holes. Fabric softener works great to remove the remains of the the old butyl and won't damage the roof or the siding. After cleaning up use a good butyl tape before replacing the vents and windows. You might want to keep it in the fridge first as it works much better when cool. EternaBond is great for seams and vents. As for the windows... they are not difficult, however; after you have put them back on, trim the excess butyl and add a bead of a good 100% clear silicone. This will insure any voids and keep the window trim looking clean. I also use eternabond around the vents and stacks. You can buy it in 50' rolls a lot cheaper online, so 'google' search on-line for a fair price. SEARCH under topics on this forum and you will be find endless tips and advice on what and how is the best way to reseal everything! Good Luck, ACE

    Tires

Thanks friends !!! I now have a better perspective about how to go about this. I was biting my tail trying to figure out why the dealers were are so lost when I inquired. I'm glad 'turtle' gave me the insight about tire racks "fresh tire" thoughts, they do seem to be a bit more educated about my challange. Dealers are asking around $90 a tire and I'm going to go ahead and buy all 6, even though I need only 2. You never know whats on the inside and my DOT says mine are 10 years old anyway. Best, ace

    Tires

Hi Folks, OK, here we go again....looking for tires??? Has anyone purchased 185 R 14 load range 'D' from a national chain? I've found some at a couple stores, however; they give me that funny look of "Umm... they don't make these anymore, but we can get them"! This really meakes me wonder if they have a true idea~~~. I believe 'tire rack' has a good yokohama, but would prefer to buy from a chain that will mount and service if needed. So if you have recently bought a set, help send me to the store, or maybe offer an alternative that fits right. Thanks, Dave

    TOWING

Thanks Tony, I think you're right about coming all the way back from the original frame work. When you say you put 2x2 "heavy wall beams", would you clarify them as a thick u-channel? The 2x6 across the rear sounds like a great modification too. Dave

    TOWING

I understand that "towing is not recommended", however; need input on this! I would like to add a hitch to pull my 600# motorcycle and a trailer under 200#. I feel that being under 1000# total weight would be safe, my speed will be kept around 55mph. I'm aware of the "weak frame issues", but I know many have towed this much or more. I was thinking of crossing the supports in an X pattern, to suppress flexing as much as possible and create a bit more support . Hopefully, some of you can help guide me with this on what you may have seen or done yourself. My 'TOY' is a '90 Dolphin, V6 automatic. The frame is solid with no rust, good shocks and air bags. Does anyone have some positive input ??? Thanks in advance, ACE
  10. I agree with idtracey.......the windows should be pulled, recomended every 5-7 years. This is an easy fix, and you'll be glad it is done properly. After removing the old tape, clean thourouly. I found that fabric softener works great and doesn't mar the fiberglass for a good cleanup. After installed, trim out the butyl tape off edges. Then add a clear silicone, this gives you a clean finish that wont fade into black and fill in any little spots not covered. It's a fairly easy afternoon project and you'll be quite pleased with the finished look. Best, ACE
  11. Hi Everyone, I need to replace the AC gasket on my '91 Odyssey 'Duo-Therm'. After cutting the power off I will lift off the cover, go inside and remove the 4 long bolts that hold it down. Should the unit then lift off to replace the gasket. If anyone has replaced one before, let me know if I'm on the right page here. I may as well clean it up with compressed air or shop vac. and straighten any fins. Any tips or tricks please advise~~~~. Also, the 9x12" filter is pretty thin and I can't seem to find the right one. Is there a good filter material that I can find to cut to size? Thanks, Dave

    Spare Tire

I APPRECIATE THE PHOTO FOR THE CRANK HANDLE, I thought that this was part of my spare jack kit, but I'll take a look and see for sure? There is a cross brace under the chassis where I assume the kit attaches to the bracket. THANKS FOR THE TIPS~~~ THERE ARE A COUPLE OF SALVAGE YARDS NOT TOO FAR, SO I'LL GET ON THE PHONE! ace
  13. Hello folks, I have a 1991 Odyssey with the spare mounted on rear of coach. I would like to mount the spare underside the frame so I can mount a cargo box. The small frame that holds the mounting bracket is there and I need know where to find the original crank mechanism that holds the spare up. If you have any ideas or have done this, I would appreciate any advice where to find them. Thanks, ace
  14. Thanks for the tips....I was looking at getting the NGKs also. After reading up on the Autolite Xp they sound good also. I liked the side electrode platinum button too. I would rather pay more and not have to change them in a year, plus get response on those long uphill climbs. Any further advice or experience from anyone for increased m.p.g. enhancements (other than common sense driving)~~~fill me in! 'best' to all, Dave
  15. Can someone help me with good advice for a tune up? I have a 1990 Odyssey automatic 6cyl. What is a good plug brand to install for enhanced fuel economy and longevity? The engine starts right up and runs smooth, but my economy is lacking around 12mpg. What are the experiences out there with plugs for the V6? Also, will install a new fuel and air filter. The engine has 45k miles and has been well maintained, though I think the previous owners just put in standard parts and I would like to get the best enhancements for obvious performance reasons. All advice or tips would be greatly appreciated, please. I plan to start traveling quite a bit soon, mostly in some higher altitudes in the Northwest. I don't have all the tools and knowledge, therefore; I will be taking it to a mechanic and need to communicate clearly what all should be done. Thanks, Dave
