  1. I haven't posted here in a while, but felt like an update was in order. I am still/again in my '84 4X4 Sunrader and she's running great. Just brought me all the way from the west TX desert to Idaho. I'm wondering if she may have the most miles of any 4X4 Sunrader on the road, more than 208k now. Anyone know of one with more?
  2. If you're anything like me, going off road, you're going to knock those little suckers off so many times.... I've given up fixing them.
  3. For me this problem is not about altitude, so it might be different, but my tank cannot handle the new shape of nozzles without kicking back and stopping the flow, so, yes, some places I have to stand there and dribble it in slowly. I try to find the old style nozzles if I have to fill up, but, of course that's not always practical on a trip.
  4. I don't know brand names and such, but just wanted to say that I have an '84 4wd 18ft Sunrader with more than 203,000 miles on it. I may be one of the few people who isn't really afraid of this problem, because I've replaced the axle a couple of times in the last 20 years but never changed the faux dually or type of axle. I keep an eye on it and one time the wheel got loose and damaged the lug area before I realized the issue, but, for that many miles and as much as I've used it (living full-time the last 6 months), I'm satisfied. Good luck.
  5. So far, no one has come forward saying they know of a 4x4 with more than 200,000 miles. I'm living in it right now, btw, and it's still going great, so keep on truckin' guys. Maybe they do last forever.
  6. I know there aren't many 4x4s left on the road and I'm curious if my '84 4cyl (still with original faux dualie design) is the mileage "Grandma". Anyone have one with more miles on it?
  7. Celebrating 200,000 miles on my little '84, 4 cyl, 4X4 Sunrader today. I'm very happy to be still on the road with this loyal friend. We've been together nearly 20 years and I've put most of those miles on it by myself. We celebrated with a great weekend boondocking in a beautiful Idaho National Forest area.
  8. Wow, Sunny, that is so sweet of you. I may have to take you up on that if I don't find something soon. Can I offer you something... a kidney or a lung maybe?
  9. This is really hard because I'm not even there and no one really knows this vehicle. I trust the Les Schwab guy to be honest as far as he knows. He's really been quite good, but... I'm just going in circles now. From building a wheel, to rear dual adapter, to single 16 inch all around, back to wheel building or machining. ARGH!
  10. According to Les Schwab it is not easy. Rebuilding or re-machining was the manager's first plan, but his trusted wheel builder won't do it, saying he's never done a wheel like this before and wouldn't trust it. Do you know anyone with experience in the Seattle area who might feel differently?
  11. 15 inches all 6 wheels. No, I don't know the rear axle weight. It's the 1984 4wd Toyota Sunrader. The holes around the studs are sheered into oblongs because the lug nuts came loose. No, I don't know how it happened. Two nuts were gone and at least one the studs sheered off by the time I felt it, heard the noise, and stopped. It was towed to a Les Schwab and we are looking for either a replacement wheel for the faux dually or another solution. Rear dual wheel adapters was suggested but pricey. I am leaning toward going with single 16 inch wheels all around.
  12. Hm. My vehicle has 15 inch now on a 4 wheel drive and, elsewhere, someone recommended 16 inch if moving from the faux dually to the single.
