  1. I found a shop that can replace my bushings and pins for me, but they don’t know how to find the parts. Does anyone know where I can get them and what kind to get? I have a 91’ btw
  2. Ok, how about the batteries? Should I have 2?
  3. Ok, so let’s say I run it on 12V while driving and switch to propane when I’m parked for any length of time. They use a lot of battery but probably not enough to drain it and mess up the battery for 5/10 min refueling stops right? also, I have one battery currently. Should I make a bigger battery box and have 2?
  4. Anyone use any kind of water filter system for drinking and cooking with?
  5. When you turn the propane off to get gas, then then turn it back on, do you have to relight the pilot light for the fridge?
  6. I've loved reading through this post and all the pictures! This thing its awesome!! I can't wait to see the final product! You're gonna have so much fun in this thing! I'm big on taking your time and doing things the right way. I can tell you're passionate about this. You're going to have the most solid Toyhome on the road!! You've given me a lot of ideas for my own rebuild! I just bought a 91 V6 Dolphin and I've been working on taking it apart. The original plan was a complete rebuild so I could beef it up and have everything new, but the main reason I got it was to be able to take my grandma on a trip around the country to visit family. I decided to forego the rebuild for now and just fix it up good enough to make the trip this year with her while she's still able. I figured if I get good stuff for it now I can always use it again when I get to the rebuild. But anyways I'm getting off topic lol Looking forward to the next progress post on your rig! 😎 Also, as a fellow 90's baby, I love the Wild Thornberries reference 😂
  7. I do not have an oven, just a stove. Thanks for the tips, I'll look into that!
  8. So this toy home I got was missing a few important things, one of them being a refrigerator. It looks like all the hookups are still there though. I'm having all the gas and water lines tested Monday at an RV shop since this is my first RV and I'm still learning the ins and outs of it. I figured it would be a good oportunity to learn how everything works, how and where to properly drain your tanks etc.. Before I go there and they try to sell me a bunch of likely overpriced things for it, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or advice on what kind of replacement fridge I should get? From what I've been reading on here the general consensus seems to be that propane is the most efficient way to go. Ive looked in to different refrigerators, but I know nothing about what's reliable and good quality. Oh, and while I'm in the kitchen, it also needs a microwave. Is there a specific kind of microwave you're suppose to have or will any microwave you pick up at the store work? Also, can you use a crock pot in an RV? I'm assuming this depends on how much power you're generating and storing. Currently there its one coach battery. I've noticed a lot of you have two. Should I try to make a larger battery box and get another? It was also missing a water heater, so I got a Girard tankless water heater that Linda had suggested in another post. Just came today! Im gonna try to tackle that this weekend along with a couple fan skylights for better airflow.
  9. Good luck and safe travels Fred!
  10. Thanks for all the tips and advice everyone! This forum has been such a godsend! Aside from all my questions you guys keep answering, I’ve learned so much from pouring through older threads you’ve all posted on. It’s so great being able to turn to people with more experience. The main reason I bought an RV is so I could take my grandma camping. I moved her in with me about 5 years ago to take care of her (in reality she takes just as much care of me). She’s been wanting to go camping but with her age and limitations she can’t really be climbing in and out of a tent. For her comfort I think I’m gonna look in to one of those Onan generators. I also think I’m gonna take your advice and not do a complete gut job just yet. That way we can get some use out of it while she’s still able without it being under construction for a year lol. I can always re do it down the line. That being said, I’m sure there will be another thread coming with more questions hahah! Thanks in advance everyone
  11. Okay, you’ve convinced me. A/C is staying. I plan on running almost everything off solar, but I know that’s not possible for A/C. At least not without a really large and expensive system. Every generator I’ve ever heard is pretty loud. Do they make quieter ones now? When I’m camping I like to hear the nature. Nothing worse than noisy generators in the background.
  12. I’ve got a lot of work to do on my camper, but I’m hoping to have the inside gutted and the roof sealed up before the temperature starts to dip in the fall. I plan on replacing the existing skylights with some that have fans in them. I’m wondering if I should ditch the A/C to cut down on some weight and just put a skylight in, or if I should keep the air conditioning. How many of you find the air conditioning a must have? Do you use it a lot in those hot summer months?
  13. This forum has been so helpful in so many ways! From all the older discussions I've been able to learn from to my many questions you've all answered! Thanks to everyone for their input! And thanks Gary for those pictures, it helps to see it!
  14. okay, cool! I can probably do that.
  15. Oh ok. thats cool! Mine doesn't have those. Thats a good idea. I was thinking about a lightweight futon in place of the jack-knife sofa. If it was in better condition I would consider doing little stuff, but its kinda rough and I wouldn't be comfortable sleeping in it. Plus I'm not sure what's going on underneath everything and I'd like to have the confidence everything is done right before I take it on any longer trips. With everything going on in the world I probably won't take it out this season anyways so that gives me time to work on it. I've been saving for one for years so I have a little money to put in to it and customize it to fit my needs and wants.
  16. I plan on gutting and redoing everything so I can have the assurance that I won't have problems with old outdated systems when I'm on the road. I'm a residential contractor and I use PEX in homes, does anyone have experience with PEX in motorhomes? Seems like it would work great, but maybe there's a better product I'm unfamiliar with. Ive been looking into instant tankless water heaters also. I figured lightweight and easy to install. any recommendations? This is my first motorhome and I was wondering what you have to do to winterize them? is there some sort of antifreeze to add the the system before winter storage? also how do you flush and clean the tanks? I know that's a lot of questions. Thanks in advance for your time and responses!
  17. I can confirm it's not a scam because I'm the one that bought it lol it definitely needs some work, but for that price its to be expected! I've been looking for months and everyone I find sells so fast. I looked at it the day after it was listed for sale and there was already someone before me.
  18. I'll make sure to do that compression check and get the valves adjusted. Thanks for the advice guys! Gary, what do you mean by wings? I'll have to browse around some of the other discussions for some ideas on mods! What did you put in place of the couch? Coffee is definitely a must have hahah! I just ordered that reducer, thanks for the tip! I have some plumbing and electrical questions, but I'll start a new discussion under the right category.
  19. Thanks for the advice and info guys! I probably should have mentioned that it's misfiring. I figured it would get some power back after that issue was corrected, but I wasn't sure how much. Honestly, I don't know a lot about motors. I can build a house from the ground up, but when it comes to vehicles I only know the basics. I'd like eventually know this engine inside and out so I can keep it running smoothly for years to come. I took a friend with me whose a mechanic when I first went to look at it a couple days ago and he said aside from the misfire the engine looks good and runs well. Ive been looking for one for a few months now and I really liked the style, size, convenience, and dependability of these little Toyotas! This one needs some serious love, but I can't wait to renovate and personalize it! My buddy said the misfire could be as simple as a distributor cap or spark plugs so I'm gonna try those first and cross my fingers that that's all it is. If not I'll have to have my mechanic do some more trouble shooting when he does the exhaust for me. I see both of you have been on this forum for a while! How long have you had these type of campers and what are some of your favorite things about them?! What are some ways you've personalized yours? any tips or must have items for someone whose just starting out on this Toyota camper journey?
  20. Hey everyone! I recently bought a 91' 3.0 V6 and I noticed that it doesn't do great going up hills. Its a bit of a fixer upper and I have to replace the exhaust and give it a tune up, check all the lines etc. I also plan on re plumbing, re wiring, adding solar, and completely renovating the interior. Im in Pennsylvania and I'd like to take it out west. The mountains are a lot bigger out there and i'm thinking if its not liking these little PA hills, it really won't like the mountains! Has anyone added a turbo to theirs, and if so what did you use and what were your results? is it even possible?
