  1. This is what I'm talking about! A ton of great advice and encouragement. Joined the FB group and still checking SearchTempest each day for the rig of my dreams. Thanks everyone and I'll be posting when I make progress!
  2. To start, I just want to say how much fun it's been joining this forum as a new member. I've already made some friends, starting to learn a lot, and it just feels right to be here. Great community. Anyway, I have a dream of making a long road trip with my girlfriend and our two dogs down through Central and South America and I'm wondering what kind of Toyota motorhome would be ideal for the trip. Maybe folks think it's the wrong vehicle all together. If so, please share why! If not, what kind of engine and modifications would make sense for such a journey? Thanks very much for helping me to think about this potential adventure in the right way! Cheers, Philip
  3. https://onslow.craigslist.org/pts/d/new-bern-1987-toyota-rbr-motorhome/7165471510.html Not much info in the ad, but decent pictures. Here's what the guy has told me and I've responded to ask for the pics: Seems like some room for negotiating the price even before heading out to look at it based on the water damage aspect.
  4. Turned out to be real. Dude got back to me and said it sold the second person he showed it to today.
  5. Thanks all. Super annoyed with these scammers.
  6. The ad in question: https://williamsport.craigslist.org/rvs/d/williamsport-1991-toyota-dolphin-rv/7163511350.html I was trying to find out about this thing but on the forum I could only find a few folks saying they use these as scam bait. What do y'all think of this deal? Is it real? Thanks!
  7. @Royal I'm certainly getting that impression about the east coast. Thoughts on this one in FL: https://fortmyers.craigslist.org/lee/rvs/d/fort-myers-1984-toyota-sunrader-19/7146676770.html I'm eager to fix up interior stuff, having recent experience converting a van into a full-time camper, but I am a novice (eager to learn) in terms of mechanics.
  8. Hey all, This is already turning out to be a really fun community to be a part of. I'm excited to learn all the ins and outs of owning a Toyota motorhome someday. After talking it over, I don't think I can make all the necessary arrangements to check out this Conquest, so I'm going to let it go for now. My dream vehicle was always the Sunrader, but this episode has inspired me to learn more about other potential models that might make a good rig for me. I'll apply all your tips and keep reading the forum as I search for something closer to me, and hopefully I'll be able to find someone to go with me to look. I just moved to the Richmond area from Seattle as things were locking down, so none of my friends are close, and I haven't really been able to make new friends yet. Such a great time for a project though... Cheers!
  9. Hmm, you're all giving me a lot to think about. Lost leverage after a long drive is a real concern, and I've never driven the 4 or 6. So I don't know what my preference is. Thanks for weighing in @canadasunrader and @odysseybernard!
  10. Thank @linda s and @fred heath for your advice!
  11. Hi all, I'm a newbie trying to find my way to my first Toyota motorhome. I live in Richmond, VA, a six-hour drive from this https://youngstown.craigslist.org/rvs/d/elkton-1986-toyato-conquest-rv/7146793815.html 1986 Conquest, 68,000 miles, images look good, for $6,500. The owners says no rust and some leaks were "fixed well" by the owner prior to him. I have the time to make the drive and look, but from all of your more knowledgable perspectives, what would you want or want to know before traveling six hours to look at the vehicle? Thanks! Philip
