  1. I just bought a battery doctor brand battery isolator. Where would be the best place to mount it? Under the hood close to the battery? It is plastic housing , but the package says that it is water resistant. Or should I place it In the cabin someplace towards the front of the cab, where it is protected from any moisture?
  2. Absolutely!! So the wiring was removed from the walls and re-routed to the front, so then it can be easily fed in to the soffit accessories.the strips around the window give me something to staple the new wall paneling back to. The second lower horizontal strip serves as a cleat and an anchor point to re-attach the bench.to the right (not pictured) there are also cleats that were glued on to screw the new cabinets into. Then I repeat the process on the driver side, rear, etc. hope this helps
  3. Would anybody happen to have any suggestions as to what I should get to replace this thing for my '78 Chinook? It looks prehistoric and a bit sketchy. I see lots of options on Amazon, but not sure what to look for since this thing doesn't have any information on it. Power center? Inverter/charger? Kinda lost, but at this stage IN MY RESTORATION, I feel like it must be replaced.any advice would help.thanks.
  4. I have a 78' Chinook. Is the original electrical component that it came within the cabin called the power center? inverter? converter? It seems to be able to do both. The reason I ask is because i am looking to update or replace it, and I need to know what I should be looking for if anything.
  5. I have my 78' torn down to the fiberglass. here I liquid nailed some furring strips to the interior, then added some insulation between the strips for good measure. this gives me something to staple or nail my paneling back to. seems to be working out great!
  6. Does any body know if it is possible to fix or replace the hi-jacker air bag suspension for my Chinook? Or is there a new version of it? would it be worthwhile? In addition to new leaf springs? How should I go about redoing the suspension on my rig?
  7. Looking to replace the seats in my 1978 Chinook.would anybody know what other Toyota seats would fit back into the original factory holes? There is an awesome Toyota pick n pull yard out here in Denver, so I was hoping maybe some seats out an old 4runner or landcruiser might work.also have heard of making some sort of bracket adapter as well.
  8. Does anybody know if I were to replace the inverter on my Chinook, which one I should get? what are the advantages/or disadvantages of replacing and how hard would it be to re-wire?
  9. I was thinking because it was the original and very old.kinda thought that a newer furnace would be safer, more efficient, and lighter. nowing nothing about the sublect,i could be wrong though.
  10. Looking to replace the furnace in my 1978 Chinook.any suggestions? Was looking for something similar size, and BTU's. A certain brand? perhaps lighter and more efficient? seeing some on amazon in the 350$ range
  11. Thanks WME. This is pretty much what I had in mind.just enough firing strips to attach paneling to, while not adding too much weight.then put some kind of insulation between the strips.then I can move forward with rebuilding the cabinets, soffit, etc.
  12. I have a 1978 Chinook Newport I am currently restoring.its pretty much gutted, but as I was taking apart,i noticed there really isn't anything holding the wood paneling to the fiberglass. I was considering gluing 3/4" firing strips to the fiberglass interior to have some sort of cleat to nail my new paneling back up to. As well as attaching the new cabinets too. Has anybody done this or would suggest doing this?
